The Fantasy-Island theory encompasses all the generally strange, quasi-natural phenomena on the island. The theory emphasizes the natural aspect of the island: raw forces unguided by a conscious being. It also emphasizes the no-free lunch concept; the island’s gifts do not come without a cost. The island’s healing powers and its curse of infertility lie at the foundation of the theory.
If the Good vs. Evil theory bookends the first five seasons, the Fantasy Island evidence is in the middle: seasons two and three. And if the show had ended after the third season, the Fantasy Island may have seemed persuasive, if not neat and tidy. It wasn’t an answer because there wasn’t a mystery, just an anomaly. The island has the power heal: a super immune system that heals the sick but as result makes it impossible for women to give birth.
